After an early career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Gordon began the private practice of law in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after graduation from the Louisiana State University Law School.

After establishing himself as one of Baton Rouge’s leading trial lawyers, he was a founding president of the Louisiana Trial Lawyer’s Association, a statewide organization of attorneys dedicated solely to the representation of the victims of wrongful injury.  Gordon has held membership in the Baton Rouge Bar Association and the Louisiana State Bar Association as well.

Gordon was co-counsel with California attorney Melvin Belli, the “King of Torts,” when the first ever tobacco product liability trial for the harm caused by tobacco smoking was litigated against R.J. Reynolds in the United State District Court in New Orleans, Louisiana.

After ceasing the active practice of trial law, Gordon’s vast experience allowed him to serve as mentor to new members of the firm and to provide advice and counsel.  One of Gordon’s sons followed him into the practice of law and later served as Judge of the Baton Rouge City Court.
